The month that counts

As we hit the very special month of Dhul Hijjah, we want to remind you about the importance of the first ten days of this holy month. The first ten days are the holiest days of the whole Islamic month. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” (Bukhari)

So, if you feel like you haven’t taken full advantage of the days of Ramadan, these days are said to be the best so we wanted to share some of the things you can do to take full advantage of Dhul Hijjah.

What is Dhul Hijjah?

Dhul Hijjah is the twelfth and final month in the Islamic calendar and it’s one of the most sacred months in the Islamic calendar. During Dhul Hijjah, Hajj (Pilgrimage) takes place as well as Qurbani. This month is also extremely powerful as Allah takes an oath on them, emphasising just how much the rewards are multiplied and mercy is given.

Things you should do on the days of Dhul Hijjah:

Fast

  • It is recommended to fast for the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah and on the day of Arafah. The Prophet  said: “Fasting the day of `Arafah expiates the sins of two years: the past one and the coming one.” [Muslim]

More Dhikr

Prophet Muhammed (saw) recommended to so recite a great deal of tahleel,  takbeer and tahmeed during the ten days of Dhul Hijjah.

  • Tahmeed: Al-hamdu Lillah (All praises be to God)
  • Tahleel: Laa ilaha ill-Allah (There is no god but Allah)
  • Tasbeeh: Subhaan-Allah (Glory be to God)

Prayer and Recitation

Praying more Qura’an and your Salah during these holy days is also extremely important. The prophets would increase in night prayers and good deeds during Dhul Hijjah. Reciting Quran is a great way to also get closer to Allah.

Give Charity

Giving Sadaqah Jariyah on these days are extremely beneficial. Your rewards are multiplied and when you give Sadaqah, you’re giving charity that keeps on reaping rewards long after you’re gone. To give Sadaqah Jariyah on the holiest of days is the best combination for your Akirah!
