“Bakra Eid” is a widely used name for Eid al‑Adha, one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar. In many parts of South Asia, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, Muslims lovingly refer to Eid al‑Adha as Bakra Eid because of the Qurbani (sacrifice) performed during this blessed time.
In 2026, Bakra Eid is expected to fall on Sunday 28 June 2026, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Bakra Eid, or Eid al‑Adha, commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.
Muslims around the world honour this legacy by performing Qurbani, the sacrifice of an animal such as a sheep, goat, cow, or camel.
It is a time of worship, gratitude, and generosity — a moment when families come together to remember the importance of faith and compassion.
Qurbani is the heart of Bakra Eid. It symbolises:
The meat from Qurbani is shared with family, neighbours, and — most importantly — those who cannot afford their own sacrifice.
For millions of families, this may be the only time they receive fresh meat all year.
Qurbani can only be carried out on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah — the three days of Eid al‑Adha.
Donations can be made in advance, but the sacrifice itself must take place within this window for it to be valid.
