New Islamic Year Begins

Muharram is the start of a new Islamic year! It’s one of the most sacred months of Islam, a day where your blessings are multiplied and greatly rewarded. Muharram also marks the anniversary of the battle of Karbala, where prophet Muhammad's grandson Imam Hussain was killed. It’s a day of sorrow but also a reminder of remembrance, sacrifice and faith.

5 Ways to Maximise your Rewards During This Special Month:

Fasting

The 10th day of Muharram is also known as the Day of Ashura - also the day that Allah (swt) saved Musa (as) and the Children of Israel.

Fasting on the Day of Ashura is one of the key ways to gain all the rewards on offer as Allah (swt) promises that anyone who fasts on this day will be rewarded by having his minor sins from the past year wiped clean.

The best of fasting after Ramadan is fasting Allah's month of Muharram."

Make Dua

Allah’s mercy is huge and even more so during the sacred month of Muharram. Remember to pray your tahajud and make special dua with intention during these days. Also remember to make dua for the less fortunate, for those who have no access to food or water and need our help and our duas.

Perform Dhikr

This is the best time to recite Dhikr as your good deeds are multiplied. Here are some prayers you can repeat:

Subhan-Allah

Al-hamdu lillah

Allahu Akbar

Give Thanks

This month has a focus on Allah’s mercy and the Prophet’s faith and hopes even when times were bleak. So, just as Ashura was a day of thanksgiving for Musa (as) and Nuh (as), you should also remember Allah.

A way to do this is to keep notes of everything you have to be grateful for.

"And if you should count the favours of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.’ (Quran 16:18)

Give charity

Muharram and the Day of Ashura especially is a great time to give to charity. Not only will your reward be multiplied, but giving sadaqah removes your sins and stands in the way of calamity.

If you’re seeking Allah’s (swt) mercy this month, one of the best ways to achieve it is by being merciful to others.

At save an Orphan, we make this easy as just donating  £21 per month, you can build a well in South Asia that allows a water-scarce community to benefit from a safe and sustainable water source.

However you choose to spend Muharram, we hope it’s days full of rewards and blessings.
