"As a photographer I witness different realities around the world. Nothing is more painful than watching the pain and suffering of children.
The
only thing I can seemingly do is to photograph and record what I see, just hoping that it might help to bring, at least, some understanding
to a difficult situation.
But a sense of uneasy anxiety persists, and all kinds of questions remain. Some seem intractable. So, is it enough just to take photographs? Can I do
more? I ask myself are those children still suffering now? Are they even alive?
You repeatedly question whether they are still cold and hungry or whether the social workers
managed
to secure the necessary funding to continue their programme of care. The reality is, I will probably never be able to answer any of these
questions.
I see that there are many people all around the world trying desperately to bring relief to the needy. These brave and dedicated people work tirelessly for
the little ones who need help.
That is a true message of hope for me. It is this hope that I try to communicate in my images.
These children's futures should not be lost, they need help so urgently, and we shouldn't just sit down and ignore them. We really must make that difference today.
Save An Orphan
is giving me that chance to help; in the countries and regions where that need is greatest. These places are truly close to my heart. Their peoples have always
welcomed me and made me feel like a true friend. I shall never forget the faces and societies that shine in unexpected beauty."
